Use this assignment to begin planning for your website. For this assignment, answer each of the questions below thoroughly and thoughtfully. You can type the answers up in a Word document or submit them as a text entry. Be sure to number your answers to match the questions below for clarity.
- What kind of website do you want to build for this class’s project? Why that kind? What skills related to your professional/career goals will it allow you to showcase?
- Find at least two examples of the type of website you might want to build. What do you like about these sites? List the web titles and their URLs (links to website) here and explain why these two are good examples.
- Confirm that you created an account with Wix and that you can log in to your account to start building a website. For this “question” write an (honest) statement such as the following: “I confirm that I have successfully created an account with Wix.com and have logged in. I know where I can start building a website within this platform.”
- Make a general “to-do” list related to building a website. Look ahead at the project checkpoints to get additional ideas. List your “to-do” items and state at least two next steps you will take in the upcoming week.
M03 Checkpoint 2 for Website Project
Use this assignment to start building your website. What kind of website do you want to build? What website-building platform will you use? For this assignment, answer each of the questions below thoroughly and thoughtfully. You can type the answers up in a Word document or submit them as a text entry. Be sure to number your answers to match the questions below for clarity.
- How you want your website to look and “feel”? Visually, what do you want it to be like? What kind of impression do you want users to get when visiting your website? Write a short description as answer.
- Homepage Planning: Find an example of a website homepage that you would like to use as an example for setting up your homepage. Provide the link to that website’s homepage and the title of the website. What do you like about that homepage?
- Homepage Planning: What do you want to have on your homepage? Create a quick list of the types of information you want to have there plus any notes about visuals or the way you want that homepage set up. (Hint–you can use the example homepage you selected for #2 to get ideas).
- Format & Style: What colors do you want to use on your website? What fonts do you plan to use? Which of Wix’s provided templates support the look you want the website to have? Will you use that template or create something entirely new?
- To-Do List: What is your updated to-do list related to building your website? Look ahead at the project checkpoints to get additional ideas. List your “to-do” items, identify at least two items that are already finished, and state at least two next steps you will take in the upcoming week.

M04 Website Project (Part 1)
Show your instructor what you have built so far. It is ok if your website is not yet completely finished! This is a halfway point check. Your finished website is due in Module 08. You should at least have the following elements completed:
- An initial draft of your homepage: You should at least have your homepage set up so that it is clear what elements you plan to have on your homepage. You will need to share your website’s link (URL) with your instructor with permissions/sharing set up so that the instructor can view your site. Make sure that your homepage has at least a majority of its planned elements, sections, and content ready. *The links or pages linked out from your homepage do not yet need to be done!
- Formatting and style selections: Your use of colors and fonts on your homepage should be an example of what you would use on pages throughout the website. They should help the site look professional. You also should use headers consistently and strategically to show the hierarchy of information on the homepage.

- Provide the link to your website plus its title. Make sure that your website’s sharing settings, permissions are set up so that your instructor will be able to view your site!
- Homepage Reflection: Summarize your current status related to this page–How did you choose the content for this page? Where did you get your ideas? What parts are finished? What do you still want to add or do on the homepage? What was or is challenging abut building the homepage? Write 3-5 sentences that thoroughly answer these questions and explain your thinking and progress related to the homepage setup and content.
- Homepage Style & Formatting Reflection: How do you currently feel about the way you are using the colors and fonts on your homepage? Is it the look and feel you are hoping for? What (if any) additional updates do you plan to make related to style and formatting? What was your thinking process behind your choices of font and colors? Write 3-5 sentences that thoroughly answer these questions and explain your thinking and progress related to the homepage setup and content.
- Skills Reflection: What are some things you have learned while building this website? What are some skills that you are using while building this website? Which of the skills or tasks involved in website building do you think would look good on a job resume? [Hint: thinking about this helps you get started on the LinkedIn activity due in Module 08] List at least three skills you are developing or showing while building this website.
- To-Do List: What is your updated to-do list related to building your website? What have you finished from prior to-do lists? What do you still need to do in order to turn in the final project in Module 08? What are two tasks you plan to do next?

- Make sure your website sharing / permission settings allow your instructor to view your homepage! Test your link (with a friend or by sending it to yourself on a different device/account) before submitting!
- Proofread your homepage! Avoid misspellings, typos, and grammar errors.
- Make sure your website demonstrates your awareness of foundational principles related to the following:
- Using the Internet for professional communication & business purposes
- Strategic use of colors
- Strategic use of fonts
- Strategic use of headers, page/information hierarchy
- Make sure the website is your own work or clearly shows when content, photos, or videos are from another source.
- Use APA format to show when content, photos, or videos are taken (but not directly linked) from another source.
- Suggestion: Request a friend or family member or tutor to “use” your homepage to see if the content is as clear as you intended. A friend/family member/tutor can also help you confirm that your link works, and support you as a proofreader. To test the link, be sure this person is trying your link on a different device than the one you have been using to create the site, and ensure that you are not logged into your Wix account on that device.

M07 Checkpoint 4 for Website Project

- Homepage: Supply the URL link to your website’s homepage. What do you still have left to do on this page (or is it complete)? Is there anything you are having a hard time figuring out?
- 1st page: Supply the URL link to the 1st of the three webpages you are creating in addition to the homepage (it’s ok if the page is not yet finished, but it should be at least started). What do you still have left to do on this page? Is there anything you are having a hard time figuring out?
- 2nd page: Supply the URL link to the 2nd of the three webpages you are creating in addition to the homepage (it’s ok if the page is not yet finished, but it should be at least started). What do you still have left to do on this page? Is there anything you are having a hard time figuring out?
- 3rd page: Supply the URL link to the 3rd of the three webpages you are creating in addition to the homepage (it’s ok if the page is not yet finished, but it should be at least started). What do you still have left to do on this page? Is there anything you are having a hard time figuring out?
- Navigation: Have you figured out how to link from the home page to each of the three other pages? What about how to link from the 3 pages back to the home page? Use 2-3 sentences to explain what navigation elements you will build on your page to help learners see what’s on your site plus move from page to page.
M08 Website Project
For this final website project, you should have a Wix website built with the following components:
- A homepage
- At least 3 additional pages (linked to the homepage)
Make sure the following is true of your website:
- Your website can be used as a demonstration of your professionalism and/or professional skills.
- The website is well-organized. Users can find key information.
- The links from your homepage to your 3 pages work.
- The links from each of your 3 pages back to your homepage work.
- Your website uses colors consistently; use of colors supports professional appearance of the site.
- Color contrasts are high enough to meet accessibility standards.
- Font choices / types support the professional appearance and hierarchy of the site.
- Your website uses font types consistently–in support of information hierarchy (e.g. Title, header 1, header 2, paragraph, etc).
- Titles, subtitles, and header levels are used where appropriate.
- The content you have included on the site is free of major language use errors, typos, misspellings, etc.
- The content (including pictures, videos, paragraphs) is clearly your own work OR you have clearly indicated the source of the media or information.
For this assignment,
- Submit the URL to your website for your instructor. Be sure that settings and sharing / permissions are set up correctly for your instructor to be able to view your website!
- In the text box, write the names of the 3 pages that you have set up and linked (in addition to the homepage) on your website. [Important Note: You might have set up your homepage so that it has many pages listed in addition to the 3 that you actually created. For this project, it’s completely ok that you did not actually create all of those extra pages that you listed on the homepage.]
- In the text box, identify at least two actions you took to make your website meet accessibility standards. (Look back at your Module 05 Website Checkpoint 3 for ideas, if needed.)

- Strategic use of headers, page/information hierarchy
- Strategic use of at least 1 visual and 1 multimedia element
- User-friendly navigation
- Accessibility guidelines
- Ethical integration of others’ work (copyright, sources cited)
- Make sure the website is your own work or clearly shows when writing, photos, videos are from another source.
- Use APA format to show when writing, photos, videos are taken (but not directly linked) from another source.
- Suggestion: Request a friend or family member or tutor to “use” your website to see if your pages and content are as clear as you intended. A friend/family member/tutor can also help you confirm that your links work, and help you proofread your site. Just be sure this person is trying your link on a different device than the one you have been using to create the site.
