Instructions:
Write a 4 page paper (not including a title and reference page) Make sure you provide an introduction and a conclusion. If writing a paper, use headings for each section. You do NOT want to provide a word for word account of your interview. That means you should not provide the exact interview questions and their responses. Your paper or video should focus on the analysis and reflection portion of the assignment, reflect in-depth research and your research must include at least three scholarly sources.
Interview- Conduct an interview of any community based domestic violence practitioner and visit the facility. You can ask the person if you can record the interview to refer to it later or you can take detailed notes. You may want to provide the domestic violence professional the questions you want to ask in advance, so they are more prepared to answer your questions during the interview. Below are some helpful hints:
The selected practitioner may be a worker at a public agency such as Child Welfare Services, Probation or local law enforcement; or the selected practitioner may be from a community-based organization such as a domestic violence shelter, counseling center or a medical facility
If you are on military assignment, you will locate instructions defining domestic violence practitioners available on deployment at the end of this document the selected practitioner may focus on victims or perpetrators of violence
You are to visit the agency, interview the practitioner, and collect the following information:
the agency’s mission statement, client population, services provided, and whether it is public, non-profit or for-profit.
the different program components or services provided by the agency
the role and experience of the practitioner, i.e. what are the practitioner’s job duties, what type of academic and agency training the practitioner has gone through, legal/ethical considerations/limitations the practitioner must work with
the practitioner’s definition of domestic violence
the laws and sanctions applied to domestic violence victims
discussion of any personal/professional impacts the worker is experiencing stemming from working in domestic violence
When interviewing the practitioner make sure to ask open-ended questions so you have ample information to write your paper
Analysis – Using the information from the interview, critique the domestic violence program that the practitioner works at. What are two things the program can improve upon? Why? Provide your rationale for your opinions. How does the practitioner’s definition differ from the textbook’s definition of domestic violence? Why is it important to understand the difference? (Use references as appropriate for this section.)
Reflection- Using your preconceived notions from the start of the course, discuss at least two ways your opinions have changed about domestic violence issues in society because of the interview and this course (Use references as appropriate for this section.).
