MLK – Final Paper
Would MLK walk away from Omelas or not? In this exam, students use what they have learned in this class to make a moral assessment and an argument(s) to defend their assessments.
Not everyone will arrive at the same conclusion. Argument strength and conceptual finesse are what matters.
Read “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” By: Ursula Le Guin and “Letter from Birmingham Jail By: MLK.” (See 8-1 Above)
Your essay should be a minimum of two pages in length. Define at least one key term (You may define more than one if needed.) The formula for a good definition is the following: State what it is. State what it isn’t. Give an example.
The goal of definition as analytical writing is conceptual clearness(clarity). Then, convince the reader that your conclusion is the best by using any of the theories and questions we have covered this semester. Put differently, you can simply assume that the reader disagrees with your position. Convince the reader that you are right.
When answering, make sure to be detailed and explicit. Please cite your answers using MLA or APA style. Most importantly, elaborate as much as possible. Define key terms, give examples, and make sure not to state simply what a thinker or theory asserts but why. Lastly, avoid lengthy quotes i.e., quotes longer than two sentences. Please paraphrase or summarize instead.
Your goal is to demonstrate accuracy, analytic finesse, breadth and historical understanding.
