LCMB7003: Strategic Management Report
TASK 1: Group Task (50%)
Select an academic paper of your choice, which is broadly relevant to the academic discipline of strategic management. Such papers may be easily obtained from business or management journals which could also available via UWTSD Library
Possible topics that could be relevant to strategic management:

The presentation, which should be centred around a collectively chosen paper and produced précis, should last for circa 20 minutes (with each students aiming to present for 5 minutes). It will be based on a combination of content assessment and a reflection of their chosen method of delivery. Please note that students must attend all the presentation sessions, regardless of whether their group is set to present as this will also be factored into the marking criteria.
Group composition
Each group should be made up of 4 students. The composition of each group should be determined by the students themselves and will have to be communicated to their designated tutor – within 2 weeks of starting the module. Groups will be formed during the class and once formed cannot be changed. At the end of week 3, students who do not yet belong to a group will be assigned either to an existing group or will form a new group, as per the tutor’s instructions.
It is the responsibility of the group members to arrange meetings on a regular basis to work on the presentation and to delegate and divide the different tasks among themselves that are necessary to progress within the task. Each group will have to nominate a group leader, who will be responsible for all forms of communication with their tutor. Students who fail to participate in the group presentation will have to contact the Module Leader, as the individual reflection report will not be graded otherwise.
Selection of Academic paper is Subject to the Approval of your tutor
Requirements:
I. Précis the selected paper and this should not exceed one side of A4 produced by the group (you will be required to distribute your summary to all audience) at the day of your groups’ presentation.
II. Present your précis and analysis (length of presentations should take max 20 minutes) per group i.e. 5 minutes per person and each presenter should produce 2 slides.
III. Each member of the group required to critically evaluate the paper and write a summary of 1000 words using your own interpretation by dividing the task as follows:
a) accurate & relevant source of information and restate the author’s argument but without your opinion.
b) identification of what problem &/or issue your chosen paper trying to solve or explain in the field. Focus on why this research is being done by looking closely for evidence of agenda or motivation of the research
c) summary of the results for each experiment, each figure, and each table. Do not try to decide what the results mean just write down what they are and explain how they are obtained.
d) analysis of the conclusion: what the author(s) think the results mean? Do they link it with the research question? Do the authors identify limitation of the study? Do you see any points that the authors missed? What do they propose to do as a next step? Do you agree with that?
TASK 2: Individual Assignment (50%)
You are required to submit a 2000 words individual coursework that will “critically evaluate the emergence of “Virtual Organisations” and how the concept of virtual management is practiced within an organisation of your choice. Your evaluation should not be focussing in explaining what virtual organisation (VO) is all about – instead you are required to discuss the challenges and opportunities of such arrangement (i.e. virtual management) in planning, designing, and leading organisations in increasingly
competitive global business environment.
You are also required to append your presentation slides, the précis of the selected paper (500 words), and the summary of chosen paper (1,000 words) to your individual assignment submission.
