People of Color or Native Americans Research Paper
Choose either People of Color, Native Americans, or women and write a research paper about your chosen group. You must use one scholarly source for each supporting paragraph. (***I’d prefer you write the paper about native Americans, as I feel they aren’t talked about enough. Perhaps mention the women as well? However, you are free to choose as you wish.***)
The paper must be written in the third person. Avoid using I, we, us, our or ours. Avoid using you, your or yours.
The essay must have an introduction. The introduction must have a thesis statement. In the introduction, briefly discuss what you think liberty and equality are. (***I think liberty means to have the right to do what I want to express myself. I feel that there shouldn’t be a factor that would be an unjust interference in my decisions. I think equality means that everyone should have equal opportunities rather than be judged by status, ethnic background or religious beliefs.***) Then consider whether your chosen group has liberty and equality. Your thesis statement should answer the question as to whether your group has liberty and equality and why or why not. The thesis statement should be one or two sentences in length. Avoid beginning your thesis statement with the words “I think” “I will show” “I will prove” “This writer thinks” “This writer will show” or “This writer will prove.” Make a statement.
The paper must have three sections. The first section covers 1886. The second section covers the time just before, during, and just after World War II. The third section covers the present time. Each section must have three paragraphs.
SECTION ONE: In the first paragraph, discuss what living was like for your chosen group in the United States IN 1886. Did your group have many or few choices about where to live? Could your group own property? Were any restrictions placed on your group?
SECTION ONE: In the second paragraph, discuss what type of work was available for your chosen group IN 1886. Did your group have many or few choices about where to work? What type of work was available for your group? Were restrictions placed on your group?
SECTION ONE: In the third paragraph, discuss your group’s political voice IN 1886. Did your group have the right to vote? If your group did have the right to vote, did they face any obstacles when trying to vote?
SECTION TWO: In the first paragraph, discuss what living was like for your chosen group in the United States. The country had been through the Great Depression. How had your group been affected by the Depression? Were any restrictions placed on your group?
SECTION TWO: In the second paragraph, discuss what your chosen group did during World War 2. Did your group work or serve in the war? If your group worked, what type of work did they do? If your group served in the war, what did they do? Were any restrictions placed on your group?
SECTION TWO: In the third paragraph, discuss what happened to your group after the war ended. If your group worked, how were they treated after the soldiers returned home? If they served, how were they treated when they returned home?
SECTION THREE: In the first paragraph, discuss whether your group has more liberty and equality now than in the past. Why or why not? Use examples.
SECTION THREE: In the second paragraph, discuss whether any obstacles are still preventing your group from achieving liberty and equality. What are those obstacles? Be specific.
SECTION THREE: In the third paragraph, discuss what you think can be done to overcome any obstacles. Be specific. Use examples.
There must be a conclusion. In the conclusion, restate your thesis and summarize what you have stated in your supporting paragraphs.
